A Natural Premium
Slate engraves with a crisp light mark that contrasts the dark stone, making it a favorite for coasters and plaques. Laser engraving on slate and stone coasters is a low-material, high-perceived-value product that sells at markets and online.
The mark is permanent and needs no finish to last.

Prep the Surface
Wipe slate to remove dust and oil. Some pieces have a rough face and a smooth face; engrave the smooth side for the cleanest mark. A quick wipe with denatured alcohol helps contrast.
Natural slate varies, so test one tile from each batch before a run.
Settings for a White Mark
A higher-power, moderate-speed pass frosts the surface to white. Too much power can flake the stone; too little leaves a faint gray. A short test on a corner finds the sweet spot.
Photos on slate need good contrast; boost it before engraving so the mark reads.
Seal for Use
Coasters see condensation, so a clear coat protects the engraved face and the stone. A matte stone sealer keeps the look natural while adding water resistance.
FAQ
