Research progress of plastic film processing by CO2 laser engraving and cutting machine

The output wavelength of traditional C02 laser cutting machine is concentrated at 10.6 μ m. The new C02 laser cutting machine can flexibly select the actual laser wavelength. There are two ways to obtain different wavelengths: (1) inserting a wavelength selection optical element into the laser folding cavity structure will produce other wavelengths, such as l0.2 μ M wavelength; (2) The isotope of C02 molecule is used as the medium to produce a wavelength of 9.41xm.
Why different from 10.6 μ M. the main reason is that the infrared absorption spectrum of most polymer films contains several peaks. Therefore, the small change of laser wavelength may have a great impact on the absorption coefficient. The films used in flexible packaging are very thin, and usually can only absorb a small part of the laser power. Therefore, by adjusting the wavelength to increase the absorption coefficient of the film, the processing speed at a given laser power will be greatly improved.
The research shows that for the unstressed polypropylene film, 10.6 μ M and 10.2 μ M laser processing, there is only a small difference in processing speed. But for commonly used BOPP film (30-50 μ M thick), the difference is very obvious.
